Meet Kilcik

Last summer, I walked into a small store in Bitez, one of the many inlets making up the Aegean coastal town of Bodrum, to find peshtemals but I found wood. In addition to weaving traditional Turkish towels, Ilker and his family hand carve spoons, bowls and boards in an old shipyard, owned by an uncle, a master schooner builder.

Meet Mymouné

Mymouné means "my preserve" in Arabic. It was started by two sisters, Youmna Goraieb and Leila Maalouf, near the end of the Lebanese civil war in 1989 in the village of Ain El Kabou resting in the foothills of Mount Sannine.
